WORKING WITH ADMINISTRATION

It is our goal as a Student Council to promote harmony between all active groups. We start doing so by getting along with our administration. Our administration is a vital part of our organization and can delegate authority of certain responsibilities upon Student Council. Student Council recognizes our principal and administration as a resource person, who has a broad perspective on the functions of our school. We give them opportunities to meet with us and assign us task that they see fit for the welfare of the students. Student Council is here for the principal to continue the excitement of being a student beyond academics.

OFFICER POSITION ROLES

President: Student Council President should run student council meetings and should be the main line of communication amongst faculty and the fellow members. Student Council president should delegate task fairly throughout the members of Student council and should discuss task with their fellow officers. The president, if so needed, will be the deciding vote in any form of election or democratic holding.

Vice President: The Student Council Vice President should run meetings in the event that the President cannot attend. The Vice President is in charge of creating task for their fellow student council members and acts as another vital line between faculty and the student body. If the President is ever relinquished of their duties, Vice President shall inhibit the role of President effective immediately.

Treasurer: Student Council Treasurer works with the business office to manage and organize funds. The Treasurer gets funding approved and works with Lamar’s vendors to organize and plan events. Student Council Treasurer has to plan accordingly to ensure the spending of funds gets approved in a timely manner and is used properly.

Secretary: Student council secretary is in charge of taking notes at any student council meeting. They are in charge of the calendar of the school year.

Student Body at Large: The Student Body at Large, if not chosen by their predecessor will by their fellow officers. The student body at large must be willing to attend most if not all football games and is the main leader of school pride. In the event that a Student council member is needed for a school pride event including, but not limited to pep-rallies, freshman orientation, homecoming, the student body at large will act as the leading representative. As well the secretary is the primary keeper of the student council website and social media platforms.

*All officer positions are elected or chosen into office and will remain in power unless they choose to step down, are asked to step down, or leave Lamar Student Council.

OFFICER ELECTIONS

Officer elections for any OPEN position will be held during the second semester at an organization wide meeting. The candidates for each position are required to make a quick speech/presentation detailing why they believe that they are the most fit for such position. Officers must have currently served one or more years in the student council class and should be elected using majority ruling (from the organization-wide vote).

*Student Body at Large has the opportunity to “pass the torch” rather than hold the position for election if the predecessor chooses to do so.

NEW MEMBER ADMISSION TO STUDENT COUNCIL CLASS

All new members of the student council leadership class must undergo an interview held by the current Student Council officers and the future Vice President and President. The interview should not ask extremely personal questions and should be used to get an idea of the candidate in question. Student Council officers and future officers must discuss and decide the admitted members amongst themselves and send in a valid list of names and id numbers to the reigning sponsor. It is the officer’s job to let each individual candidate know if they were rejected or accepted for the future class. No bias or personal vendettas should affect any candidates’ chances of being admitted into the student council class, however teacher recommendations, the interview, grades, and attendance can be used to decide if students are acceptable candidates.
